General Information
Situated in one of the most beautiful areas of Spain, Barcelona Zoo is a perfect tourist destination for you and your family. Founded in 1892, it represents a great attraction especially if you are visiting Barcelona with children. It is a place where you can forget about the hustle of the city and reconnect with nature by spending quality time with children and friends, you can relax and enjoy the views and admire animals of different species.
Today the Zoo is visited by 1 million people annually. With over 2000 animals, from all continents and 300 different species the Barcelona ZOO is the oldest but most modern ZOO in Spain. The ZOO occupies around 13 hectares inside Ciutadella Park and it has been restored and redesigned over its 100 years lifetime, special attention being given to the restoration of endangered species. It is an amazing place where you can see many famous animals like Snow Flake (Gorilla), Avi, Batanga, Nimba, Júlia, Ulisses.
What do you see at the Barcelona Zoo
The ZOO is divided in many areas that feature specific type of animals like: The Land of Dragons, The Terrarium, The Gorillas and Aquarama.
The Aquarama section features a 3 store circular swimming pool with a capacity of 2.5 million liters of water. The attraction includes dolphins and seals and every few hours there is a dolphin show at the pool not to be missed. If you enjoy dolphins check out Aquarium Barcelona.
The Terrarium features a wide selection of reptiles, like iguanas, chameleons, lizards and venomous snakes. Another great section is the apes one where you can watch mandrills and titis (the smallest monkey in the world). Zoo offers the possibility to interact with the animals, some scary, anothers beautiful but all friendly. There is a petting ZOO where children can play with farm animals and ride ponies.
Among the most unique animals are: white kangaroos, tapirs, turtles from Galapagos and komodo dragons. There are owls and peacock, which walked around the ZOO and expose their coloured lovely feathers. The Barcelona Zoo is home to one of the largest most imposing animals in the world like gorillas, hippos, giraffes, elephants and rhinoceros.
The Zoo has 2 entries, 2 locker room areas, 2 parking places for bikes, souvenirs shops, an info center, medical service, wi-fi areas and toilets. Furthermore, parents who visit with children can enjoy the parks, playgrounds and can take photos, using the funny panels with animals.
Inside the zoo, there are restaurant like Las Aguilas, Terrarium bar, Savanah Trattoria. For those that brought food with them, there is a picnic area.
For a full experience the Zoo offers buggies for rent and a train rail that will take you and your family on a ride around the park.

How to get there: The Zoo is located next to Parc de la Ciutadella, you can take the Metro L4 (yellow) and L1 (red) to the Ciutadella station, or the buses 14,22,39,40,51,57,64.
