Palau de la Música Catalana

General Information

Palau de la Música Catalana (Palace of Catalan Music) is an impressive building built in the old part of Barcelona in the Rivera neighborhood located in the El Born quarter (west part of Plaça de Catalunya). The building is built in the modernist style, it is considered an architectural marvel and an important tourist attraction for lovers of both architecture and culture (for additional information – Architecture in Barcelona). The building was built by the architect Louis Domenech e Montner more than a century ago, presenting the unique combination of modern construction and Gothic influences. It includes many combinations of different materials that create the uniqueness of the structure.

Like Casa Mila, when Palau de la Música Catalana was built, it was not welcomed by the people of Barcelona and it was considered a symbol of bad taste.

You can visit both the outside and the inside of this spectacular building. The highlight of the place is a huge concert hall with an impressive glass ceiling that allows a unique light and shadow game throughout the day. In addition, you can visit the venue for a musical concert (mainly classical music and jazz).
