The Barrio Judio (Jewish Quarter) is situated in the city centre, in the Gothic Quarter (Barri Gotic). Before the 15th century, when the Jews were driven away from Catalonia, this quarter was the centre of Barcelona’s Jewish community. Although the majority of the Jewish community of Catalonia lived in Girona, the Jewish community of Barcelona was also very strong and wealthy.
