Ciutat Vella

General Information

Ciutat Vella comprises those districts of Barcelona that were part of the city before its extension at the end of the 19th century. These quarters are the Gothic Quarter (Barri Gotic), El Born, El Raval, Ciutadella Park (Parc de la Ciutadella), Port Vell and Barceloneta. This zone is considered to be the main tourist attraction of Barcelona.

Things To Do in Ciutat Vella

Since Ciutat Vella is a larger area composed of many quarters, it does not have a special character, every part of the area has a different view.

The tourists who visit El Born can take a nice walk on the narrow medieval streets of the area and see the famous Museu Picasso. At the same time, there can be admired a lot of imposing and old gothic buildings in the Gothic Quarter. Then, in contrast with these, Parc de la Ciutadella is a perfect place for those who would like to spend some hours in a beautiful park.

The Parc de la Ciutadella (The Citadel Park) is the main park of Barcelona, which also includes the Catalan Parliament,
the Zoo and the museums of zoology and geology.

Port Vell is recommended mainly to those who would like to enjoy the beach and the sea or would like to visit the Aquarium Barcelona. Tips for Hotels in Ciutat Vella:

  • Since Ciutat Vella is a very famous and popular part of Barcelona, there are a lot of options to find accommodation there. However, you need to be aware that there are differences between the hotels depending on the part of the district in which they are situated. El Raval is cheaper than the other parts of Ciutat Vella but the neighborhood is not so beautiful and it is inhabited mainly by immigrants and students. At the same time the Gothic Quarter is a very beautiful and romantic area but, naturally, the prices are higher (for additional information – Hotels near Ciutat Vella and Hotels in Barcelona).
