Car Rental at Barcelona Airport - Parking Lots

Q: Is there any possibility to park my car at El Prat?

A: There is a great number of parking lots available at the airport of Barcelona. Nonetheless, they are quite expensive, which is why it is suggested to park your car somewhere else, if possible.

If there is no other alternative and you leave your car at El Prat, you can find detailed information about the parking management below (for additional information – Car Rental from Barcelona Airport, Car Rental in Barcelona and Car Rental in Spain).

There are approximately 20,000 parking lots available at the two terminals of the airport. Aside of those, there is a separate long-stay car park, situated between the two terminals, and parking space reserved for disabled persons (for additional information – Car Rental from Barcelona Airport – Accessibility and Accessibility in Barcelona).

At Terminal 1, you can choose between covered and outside surface parking. The first one is situated in a huge, nine storey building, connected directly to the terminal. This is the official parking area of T1. The open-air car park is a bit farther and it is located a few meters away from the terminal. It is reserved for cars that are higher than 2,20m.

At Terminal 2, the car parking spaces are located directly opposite the terminal. There is a separate building for each of the three main areas of T2 (T2A, T2B and T2C); these are PA Car Park, PB Car Park and PC Car Park. The PB building has one level and it is an uncovered area. The other two spaces offer both covered and surface parking lots.

In each case, you can leave your vehicle in the car park for either a short or a long term. Nevertheless, for stays longer than one day, you will get a better deal if you park your car in the separate long-stay parking, situated 2 km away from both of the terminals. In order to get back to the terminal, you have to wait for a free shuttle bus that runs every 5 minutes.

It is possible to pre-book a long-term parking lot online or buy the tickets at the airport using the ticket machine available at the entrance. You need to show this ticket to the office that operates the long-stay car park. This service is permanently open.

In addition to these, you can leave your car in a private car park, operated by VIP Parking. This service has several small car parking spaces outside T1 and T2. Due to the limited number of lots, you have to book them in advance by calling the company at the following number: +34 93 297 1381.

The prices are the same for T1 and T2 and for covered and uncovered lots.

Here you can find the car parking rates, last updated in September 2017. It is strongly recommended to review them before your trip, in case there might be any changes:

  • 0.057€/minute for parking between 1 and 30 minutes;
  • 0.055€/minute for parking between 31 and 120 minutes;
  • 0.050€/minute for parking longer than 120 minutes;
  • 20.95€ is the daily maximum rate for parking up to four days;
  • 16,00€ is the daily maximum rate for parking longer the four days.

If you park your vehicle in the long-stay car park, you will have to pay about 8-10€/day.

When you arrive at the airport, you need to decide on the most suitable car parking space for you. At the entrance of each building, you will find an automatic vending machine where you can get a ticket. It is recommended to keep the ticket with you at all times, instead of leaving it in your car.

It is important to pay before you remove your car. You can do this at the parking cashiers situated in both of the terminals. If this is not convenient for you, it is possible to use the automatic payment machines in the terminal or the covered car parking buildings. Your payment will be registered on the card you previously received, when you firstly arrived at El Prat. You cannot leave the car park area without this card!

Take into consideration the fact that you must leave the car parking space in the next 20 minutes after your payment. If any problem occurs, you can ask for help via the payment machines or by visiting the information center. You can go at one of the Aena airport information desks situated in T2B or at a car park information desk in T2C.

If there are problems with your car battery, the operators of the parking area will help you to start your car without any extra payment.
