Q: Is TMB Airport Bus (Number 46) wheelchair-friendly?
A: TMB’s buses are fully accessible for disabled passengers (for additional information – Accessibility of Barcelona Airport Transfer and Accessibility in Barcelona).
If you do not prefer to book a transfer company or a taxi, it is strongly recommended to use TMB Airport Bus (Number 46). Traveling by Aerobus Barcelona, which is more comfortable than a public bus, is also more expensive and this service is not entirely wheelchair-friendly.
Certainly, in contrast with airport transfer vehicles and taxis, a public bus is not a direct transportation method, which makes this service less advantageous for wheelchair users (for additional information – Public Transportation in Barcelona, Barcelona Airport Taxis, Barcelona Airport Private Transfer and Shared Transfer).
The TMB buses are equipped with ramps and several seats are reserved for disabled travellers, their wheelchairs and scooters.
If you want to get on the bus in your wheelchair, you need to ask the bus driver to activate the ramp. On double-articulated buses, the ramp is available at the front door, while on other buses, which have more than one door, you need to look for it at the the second entrance.
If you are travelling in your wheelchair, do not forget to use the seat belt. It is also required to seat opposite to the direction of motion.
Aside of wheelchair users, TMB Airport Bus (Number 46) is also adapted for blind and deaf people. The next station is indicated both by visual and acoustic signals. The guide dogs used by blind passengers can get on the bus with them, as well.
