Q: My flight will arrive at El Prat at 3:00 am and I would like to travel to the city by a taxi. What are the taxi rates during the night?

A: There are extra fares during the night-time hours, in fact, the official taxi companies in Barcelona use four pricing categories in the metropolitan area of the city. These categories depend on the time and destination of the rides (for additional information – Visit Barcelona at night).

Night-time travels belong to the categories charged with T-2 and T-3. T-2 is used in the Barcelona Metropolitan area on working days between 8:00 pm and 8:00 am; on weekends and on holidays between 6.00 am and 8.00 pm; on Mondays and on working days following holidays between 12:00 am and 8.00 am. T-3 is valid in the Barcelona Metropolitan area on weekends and on holidays between 12.00 am and 6.00 am and between 8.00 pm and 12.00 am (for additional information – Public Holidays in Barcelona and Sundays in Barcelona).

In the case of T-2, you need to pay a standard fare, which currently is 2,15€ (4.20€, if you dispatch the car), plus an additional 1,34€ after every km. A rate payable after every hour of waiting is also established. Currently, the fare is 22,40€. These values are a bit higher for journeys charged with T-3, where the standard fare is 2,30€ (4,50€ for dispatched taxis). The rate per km is 1,40€ and you have to pay 22,40€ for every hour of waiting.

Aside of what was mentioned above, there is an additional fare (3,10€) used during the night-time hours (between 8:00 pm and 8:00 am) and on special holidays: Night of San Juan (from 23th to 24th June); Christmas Eve (from 24th December to 25th December) and New Year’s Eve (from 31st December to 1st January) (for additional information – Prices of Barcelona Airport Taxis).

These extra fares turn the expensive taxi rides into an even more costly trip. Therefore, it is suggested that, if you arrive at El Prat during the night hours, you should travel to the city by public transportation and catch a taxi only if it will be absolutely necessary (for additional information – Airport Night Bus: NitBus N17).
