A: Yes, PortAventura is a very popular attraction for families with children, the theme parks are inspired by different places in the world and it can be a fun experience for the whole family. PortAventura World includes 3 different parks, the PortAventura Adventure Park, the Caribe Water Park and Ferrari Land. The most famous among families is the Adventure park that has 6 different areas: the Mediterrània, Far West, China, Polynesia, Mexico and Sesamo Aventura.

Tips and Recommendations

  • It is highly recommended to buy your tickets online. You will skip the long waiting lines and you will also get a significant discount. It is also possible to purchase a ticket that combine the three different parks as you wish (for additional information – PortAventura Tickets in Advance and PortAventura Tickets).
  • The best time to visit is when the weather is not too hot and not too cold, and in the middle of the week if possible. During the summer the Park can be very crowded as school is off and many families are on holiday (for additional information – Summer Vacation in Barcelona, PortAventura Park During Winter and Weather in Barcelona). The best strategy to avoid long waiting lines is to start with China area from the back of the Adventure park and work your way towards the front against the crowd.
  • If you want to skip the queues you have the option of purchasing one of the PortAventura Express Passes that will give you quick access to the most important rides and some of the passes will even allow you to take the front row seat. These fast passes are not cheap but they will definitely save you a lot of time so you can enjoy more rides (for additional information – PortAventura Express Pass).
  • There are suitable rides for the whole family. The younger kids can enjoy some of the smaller rides and the shows from Sesamo Aventura area. The older children can feel like cowboys in the Far West area.
  • Because it is an outdoor attraction the sun can be very harsh, especially mid day, make sure you bring sunscreen to protect you and your family from getting burn. Outside food and beverage are not allowed inside the park but a pro tip it to bring an empty water bottle and fill it with water inside.
  • There are height limits to some of the rides so make sure you measure your children’s height before arriving to avoid disappointment. The restriction varies from 1.00m to 1.05m (Tomahawk rollercoaster), 1.10m (El Diablo, the Silver River Flume and Grand Rapids), 1.20m (Magic Fish and Stampede) and 1.40m (Furious Baco and Shambhala). (for additional information – Height Restriction on Rides in PortAventura).
  • The best rides for children are: The Área Infantil in China, all Sesamo Aventura area with rides like the Tami Tami coaster, the El Salto Blas and the train ride that goes around the family friendly areas of the park.
  • There are many theme restaurants available in all areas of PortAventura. The food is good and the prices are cinema and airport prices. You will find a big selection of burgers, pizza, fries and some gluten free or vegan options as well (for additional information – Bars and Restaurants in Barcelona).
