A: There are three places where you can park you car, two of them only half way up the hill, and the last one is at the top of the hill near the
Montserrat Monastery.
The first parking option is at the Cremallera rack railway station (7.00€ de Monistrol Vila Rack Railway station) which is right by the Monistrol train station. This parking is free of charge, but since it is only half the way up the hill you will need to pay for the Cremallera rack railway to go up to the monastery (6.55 € for an adult, as of 2017), for additional information – Getting to the Monastery of Montserrat. Note that the parking is open only during the operating hours of the Cremallera, so it is advised to pick up your car in time before the parking closes! This parking lot has plenty of spaces (1000).
The second parking is at the Aeri cable car station close to Aeri de Montserrat train station. It is also situated only half way up the hill and from there you would need to take the cable car up to the monastery at a cost of 7.00 € for adult (as of 2017). Parking here is free in case that you purchase a ticket for the cable car.
The third parking is up the hill close to the monastery, but it is located down a slope, so reaching from the parking to the monastery would not be easy for people with disabilities or elderly people. This parking is open 24 hours a day, the price is 6.50 € per day, first 30 minutes are free of charge (as of 2017). The downside of this parking is that it has only 400 spaces for cars, so if you arrive late, after the whole journey up the hill you might find out that the lot is full…
Reading all this information makes it clear that the free parking options at the Cremallera or the Aeri cable car would not be so free once you pay for the Cremallera or the cable car to arrive up at the monastery. Furthermore, since the prices for one adult single ride on the Cremallera / cable car are similar to a whole day parking up at the monastery, paying for the parking up in the monastery would be cheaper even for only one traveller since he would need to buy tickets for the Cremallera / cable car for both ways (up and back down).
